HICLC Grocery Pick-Up

It has been said by many that being involved at the HICLC is like having a front row seat to God’s amazing works. We’re always aware of God’s blessings on the Center, but especially recently during the quarantine from COVID-19. God completely opens doors for the Staff and Board Members that enable us to fully bless our HICLC families. Between grant opportunities, generous donations and volunteers lending a hand, we have been showered with love and service. We are humbled and honored that God has chosen us to do His work at the HICLC and carry out His mission.

During the quarantine, one of the items the HICLC asked for was non-perishable food items. We waited several weeks until our supply was full. God opened many doors for us, putting us in contact with people in our community who do His work daily. Episcopal Church of the Nativity’s Outreach Missioner Rosie Veal Eby has been a huge proponent and supporter of the HICLC. Church of the Nativity sponsors the Green Street Market on Thursday afternoons. To enter the market to shop, you must wear a mask. Free masks are given, or you have the option to buy a hand made mask created by a member of the church. The money made from the masks is given to Rosie and her ministry. She contacted the HICLC Staff and informed us that she would love to give to our families, while also putting the money that was made off of the masks back into the Green Street Market.

Meanwhile, our Interim Executive Director Phyllene Washington attended an event at First Missionary Baptist Church Blue Springs to recognize the HICLC along with eight other non profit organizations. As God would have it Morgan Saintjones from the Legacy Center was next to Phyllene. As they waited to be introduced Morgan asked what HICLC did. As Phyllene explained our mission Morgan got excited and shared information about a grant the Legacy Center received and immediately offered fresh produce and milk for the month of June. Since that meeting the program has been extend through July and August.

All of these wonderful opportunities lined up perfectly, in only a way that God could arrange. Friday, June 5th, the HICLC was able to host a Grocery Pick-Up event. Our families were able to stop by the Center and receive a bag of non-perishable food items, a bag of fresh produce from the Green Street Market, a gallon of milk, a bag of assorted toiletries, and other items that had been donated before and during the quarantine.

The HICLC Staff and Board of Directors have truly been humbled. God continues to amaze us every day and we are in awe of the way He presents us with new opportunities, friends and supporters (both new and longtime), and blessings upon blessings every day.
