The 2019 Give It Back Track 5K and Fun Run

At the HICLC, our students learn that they should always be looking for ways to “give back.” Each year, they choose to donate the proceeds from our annual 5K race and 1 mile fun run to a deserving charity. This year, HICLC is donating all proceeds from the Give It Back Track 5K and fun run to Graces of Gurley.

The Give It Back Track 5K and fun run will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2019, from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at 2700 Hall Avenue NW, Huntsville, AL 35805 (behind Campus 805).

On March 28, 2019, the Huntsville Botanical Garden Grand Hall was filled to capacity for The Huntsville Inner Center Learning Center (HICLC) Spring Fundraising Dinner. With 320 guests and more than 40 sponsors, the sold-out event raised over $150,000 to support the HICLC’s continued mission of inner-city youth education and enrichment through Bible-based after-school programs and mentorship. During the program, guests were given a closer look at the inner workings of the organization, as well as insight into the necessity of this program in the community.

Art Leslie, HICLC Founder and Executive Director, described the fundraising dinner as “an extraordinary evening from my view on ‘the front row’ of watching some individuals learn about the HICLC for the first time and giving familiar partners a closer look at some of our children and their family situations. The fundraiser truly expanded everyone’s knowledge of the intentional work done by the HICLC.” Before Leslie delivered a keynote address connecting God constantly providing a way of escape for HICLC students to Him providing a ram for sacrifice to replace Abraham’s son Isaac, guest speaker and author May Patterson gave a similarly heartfelt speech. In her address, Patterson walked the audience through the direct connection between the premise of seeking God wholeheartedly in her book,Seeking a Familiar Face, to our opportunity to see God at work through our support of those that help His children.

It was one of those nights where you felt God was in the room.
— Susan Callaway, HICLC Program Director

Special thanks go to the dynamic chairwomen of the night, Jackie Albrecht and Anne Laue for their amazing leadership throughout the entire process. We can’t wait to see what the Spring 2020 Fundraiser will bring!
